Marianske Lazne itself has no shortage of impressive buildings; however,
most date only from the 19th Century. There are, however, several notable
monuments in its vicinity.
The Premonstratensian monastery at Tepla is among the oldest
monasteries
in the country; it dates back to 1193. The complex houses a valuable
library with thousands of rare books.
The town of Cheb lies in the westernmost corner of the country.
Its well-
preserved historical center with its timber houses has been declared an
architectural preserve.
The chateau at Kynzvart is another popular attraction. Once owned
by the
Metternich family, the neoclassical chateau houses a valuable library with
rare manuscripts. Guided tours are available spring through fall. An
English park surrounding the chateau is perfect for picnics.
